Semester Exam Exemption
Rules

General Rules: Block classes (90 minute classes) –
To be exempt within these courses, you must not have more than five excused
absences (home notes, doctor’s notes, etc.) and NO unexcused absences. If you do not have a 2.0 average IN THAT COURSE , your teacher may require you to take the exam
regardless of your absences.
Year-long classes (45 minute classes) – You
cannot be exempt from first semester exams in these courses. In order to be exempt for second semester
exams, you must not have more than ten excused absences (home notes, doctor’s
notes, etc.) and NO unexcused absences for the ENTIRE school year. If you do not have a 2.0 average IN THAT COURSE , your teacher may require you to take the exam
regardless of your absences.
Exemption
Rules:
If you have 4
classes: If you meet the exemption standards, you must take two
exams in January and two exams in June.
During each exam period, at least one of the two exams that you take
must be a core class. Core classes are
English, math, science, and social studies courses. Core classes DO NOT include Skills classes,
and are different from required classes.
If you have 5 classes: If you meet the exemption
standards, you must take three exams in January and one exam in June. In January, you must take the exams in each
of your year-long classes (45 minutes).
Additionally, you must take one other exam from your block classes. At least one of these exams must be a core
class. Core classes are English, math,
science, and social studies courses.
Core classes DO NOT include Skills classes, and are different from
required classes. In June, you must take
one exam from any of your five classes.
This exam MUST be a core class.
If you have 6 classes: If you meet the exemption
standards, you must take four exams in January.
You must take an exam in each of your year-long classes (45
minutes). At least one of these exams
must be a core class. Core classes are
English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
Core classes DO NOT include Skills classes. If none of these courses are a core class,
then you must take a core exam in June.
If one of the exams you take in January is a core exam and you maintain
your exemption status, then you do not have to take any exams in June.
